In a challenging world,
a high TOEIC score can make the difference in
jobs, promotions and school admissions. We have
an ongoing program during which students work
on sentence structure, reading, writing and listening
activities, as well as practice tests. LI is also
a recognized TOEIC testing centre. |
TOEFL
Preparation |
Anyone wishing
to enter a North American university or college
will need to take the TOEFL examination. This
preparation course allows students to improve
their grammar, reading, writing and vocabulary
skills; practice testing is also provided. |

English |
Prepare résumés and
business letters, practice job interviews, study
business practices. Develop workplace vocabulary,
and learn about business culture in North America
and in other regions. |

World
around us |
Discover what's
going on in the world using television, movies,
video and newspapers. |

Read and discuss short stories
from modern English literature. Build your reading,
writing and vocabulary skills. |
Reading
and
Writing Skills |
Improve your
reading and writing skills in a variety of contexts.
Work on your specific problem areas such as style,
sentence structure, vocabulary and punctuation. |

Vocabulary |
Learn and practise idioms and vocabulary
for informal and formal use. Discover techniques
to make your vocabulary grow and learn to understand
the real language used on the street. |
Travel
and
Survival Skills |
Learn speaking
strategies for use in every day situations in
Canada, e.g. restaurants, banks, shopping, socializing,
movies, and dating. Build your skill as a traveler
and feel your confidence grow using English. |
Pronunciation
Skills |
Extra work on the difficult sounds
in English. Hear how your voice sounds on tape.
Improve your stress and intonation. Feel more
confident when you speak. |

Share your experiences
and participate in discussions of different cultures
as you learn more about Canadian culture, and
your fellow students learn about you. |
Music, Movies
and Television |
Watch popular movies and television
to improve your listening, vocabulary and idiom
skills through such activities as plot summary,
character development and role play. |
Vocabulary
Through Games |
Learn new vocabulary
and structures while playing board games and learning
international games. Excellent for those who teach
English in their native country. |

Use the media of the future. Learn
to "surf," and to understand what you
find when you get there. Try designing your own
web page. |
| School
Newspaper |
Learn research,
design, interview and editing skills through writing
a monthly newspaper for you and the other LI students.

| NOTE:These
classes are designed to meet the needs and interests
of our students. We make every effort to offer
all of them, all of the time, but require a minimum
of 5 students in each, so the classes will change
slightly from time to time depending on the interests
and levels of the students participating. |
